Introduction
This article explains how to resolve the error message "Unable to generate the certificate request" that you may encounter when generating a .p12 security key for the Simple Order API. It covers the cause of the issue, step-by-step resolution actions, and additional troubleshooting tips to help you successfully complete the key generation process.
Problem Description
You receive an error message when generating a .p12 security key for the Simple Order Application Programming Interface (API).
The error message may appear similar to the following example:
Unable to process the certificate request. Server returned HTTP response code: 400 for URL: https://api.cybersource.com/merchant-mgmt/v1/keysets/transactionKey. The certificate processing system is unavailable. Please try again later.
Cause
While generating a .p12 security key from the applet, you may have selected Yes when prompted to block unsafe components from running. If this happens, the browser prevents the applet from running and displays the following message:
"Generating the certificate request. This may take several seconds. Unable to generate the certificate request."
Resolution
- Restarting the key generation process.
- Selecting No if prompted to block unsafe components from running.
If you continue to receive an error, try the following additional troubleshooting steps:
- Use a different browser and update it to the latest version.
- Update Java to the most current version.
- Clear your browser cache and cookies.
- Add the relevant URLs to your Java installation's exception list.
- Contact your IT team to confirm that firewalls are not blocking the Java applet from downloading the Java Network Launch Protocol (JNLP) file.
- Run the JNLP file from the same computer where it was downloaded.
- Run the JNLP file before logging out of Business Center.
- Run the JNLP file within the passcode or token lifespan of 5 minutes.
