Introduction

This article provides guidance on how to void a transaction using the Business Center or our API. A void is the cancellation of a settlement or credit transaction. You can submit a void request anytime after submitting the credit or settlement and before it is batched to the processor.

Procedure

Voiding a Transaction in the Business Center

  1. Sign In: Access the Business Center by signing in with your credentials.
  2. Navigate to Transactions: Select "Transaction Management" and then "Transactions."
  3. Specify Date Range: Choose a date range, such as the last 7 days, to locate your transaction.
  4. Filter Transactions: Select "Add a Filter" to filter by a specific field, such as Request ID or Merchant Reference Number.
  5. View Transaction Details: Select the Request ID to view the transaction details.
  6. Void the Transaction: Select "VOID" from the menu bar above the Transaction History.

If the VOID Button is Not Available

  • Authorization vs. Settlement: The transaction might be an authorization, not a settlement or credit. Refer to Article 000002054 for guidance on deleting or reversing an authorization.
  • Batched Transactions: If the transaction has been batched, it will need to be credited. Refer to Article 000002027 for instructions on issuing a follow-on credit.

  • How do I check the status of my transaction?

    To locate your transaction within the Business Center, refer to Article 000002666

  • How long does it take to settle my transaction?

    Transactions follow the standard settlement process. Once transmitted, your Merchant Service Provider (Acquirer) receives the batch containing the credit. For ETAs on when the credit will appear in your customer's bank account, contact your Merchant Service Provider.

  • How do I obtain logs of my transaction request?

    To obtain logs pertaining to your transaction, please refer to Article 000002076

  • What’s the difference between a card authorization and a card settlement?

    A card authorization authorizes the funds for the purchase. A card settlement occurs when an authorization and capture has taken place on the payment, and it will be sent to your Merchant Service Provider (Acquirer) for funding. For more information, refer to Article 000001652

  • Are there any fees associated with authorizations or voiding a payment?

    Generally, Cybersource has standard fees associated with payments. Refer to your recent invoice for more information or contact your Account Manager. Outside of Cybersource, contact your Merchant Service Provider (Acquirer).
