Introduction

Merchants who wish to accept American Express (AMEX) cards must establish an account with Amex Direct. The steps to integrate Amex Direct vary based on whether your merchant acquiring (merchant service provider) is Cybersource or another provider. This article describes the process for both scenarios.

Procedure

1. Establish Your Amex Direct Account

  • Ensure you have an active account with Amex Direct.
  • If you do not already have an Amex Direct account, contact American Express to begin the onboarding process.

2. Integrate Amex Direct Based on Your Merchant Acquirer

If Cybersource is Your Merchant Acquirer

  1. Submit a support case to Cybersource Support with your Service Establishment (SE) Number.
  2. Cybersource will work to add Amex Direct to your Cybersource merchant account.
  3. Allow 3–5 business days for this change to take effect.

If Your Merchant Acquirer is Not Cybersource

  1. Contact your merchant acquirer to set up Amex Direct on their end.
  2. Once Amex Direct is enabled by your merchant acquirer, contact Cybersource Support.
  3. Cybersource will provide you with a Boarding Form.
  4. Complete and return the Boarding Form as directed, so Cybersource can configure Amex Direct on your account.
