Definition

The Address Verification Service (AVS) is a system established by the credit card processing associations to verify customer billing addresses submitted with e-commerce payment transactions. Though AVS does not verify the legitimacy of a transaction, merchants can analyze the AVS (Address Verification System) results to determine the validity of a customer-provided billing address.

Note: Visa Acceptance Solutions (including Cybersource) only include AVS results in the response message provided by the issuing bank.
